Learn To Fly Fish!

Here at Watauga River Anglers we believe that individualized attention is the key to
learning the art of Fly Fishing, therefore we offer multiple two hour courses that focus on
one specific aspect of the sport. Each of these courses will give you an in depth
knowledge of the subject. We keep instructor to student ratios low (usually 1:1 or 1:2) so
you can truly get a personalized experience. We also offer an eight hour course that will
go over everything you need to fly fish. If you want to go even more in depth into the
specific techniques we use to catch fish we offer a two day course that will give you an
extensive knowledge of fly fishing and really "put you on the fish" also!
2 hour Casting Class ($50.00):
We will go over the basics of overhead casting, roll casting, sidearm casting, bow and
arrow casting, steeple casting, tuck casting, and proper mending.
2 hour Entomology Course ($50.00):
In this course we will go seine our local waters so you can see and properly identify what
the trout are feeding on. We will also go over what flies imitate these bugs so you can
really match the hatch!
2 hour Knot and Fly Selection Class ($50.00):
You will learn the most common and useful knots in Fly Fishing including the Improved
Clinch knot, the Surgeon's knot, the Blood knot, and the Nail knot. In the second part of
the course you will learn about fly selection. We will go over what flies work in our local
waters at different times throughout the year as well as how to select flies in water you
have never seen or fished before.
8 hour School ($225.00 per person):
In the eight hour school you will learn everything listed above and much more! We will go
over all of the basics of fly fishing as well as some more advanced techniques. You will go
to several different venues so that you get exposed to all of the types of fly fishing the
high country has to offer and learn how to properly catch and release trout. At the end of
the day you will be equipped with the knowledge you need to catch fish in our local waters.
Two Day School ($400.00 per person):
The two day school is our most comprehensive fly fishing experience. In addition to what
is listed above you will learn advanced techniques from our master guides that will truly
give you the edge on the water. We will go to a variety of venues ranging from small
mountain brooks to large rivers so that when you leave you will be confident in every fly
fishing situation.
